Our lodges and camps

Dulana Serengeti South

Located on the edge of Hidden Valley on the southern plains of the Serengeti, Dulana Serengeti South is close to the short grass plains that are home to an abundance of cheetah and lion during the green season of the Great Migration.

The camp has a feel of remote exclusivity, far from the well-trodden tourist trail. The canvas tents reflect the beauty and romance of our mobile tented camp heritage, while still combining modern comforts and our exceptional standards of service.

Dulana Serengeti North

Situated in the far north of the Serengeti, Dulana is our luxury mobile tented camp that offers a front row seat to The Great Migration during the dry season. As the herds move north in search of more fertile grazing grounds, so too does the camp. Open plains and beautiful kopje rock formations are part of this dramatic landscape, along with a plethora of different mammal and bird species.

The camp itself embodies the quintessential ‘under canvas’ experience, while still being extremely comfortable and offering exceptional levels of exclusive service.

Osunyai Lamarkau

Located in the heart of elephant country, with uninterrupted views across the Lamarkau Wetland in Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park, Osunyai Lamarkau is a truly special safari camp that embodies privacy and exclusivity.  The camp offers exceptional game viewing opportunities due to the sheer numbers of game that move through the area, and can be booked out for individual groups to maximise privacy.

The camp’s elevation on elegant teak decks give you the sense that you’re floating with the African sunrise, while still being immersed in the landscape that surrounds you. Every accommodation area - from rooms to dining areas and even showers toilets - all look out on Mother Africa beyond.

Olerai

Set on the outskirts of Arusha, Olerai House is ideal for small groups wanting a truly private stay. Our exclusive philosophy means we’re able to extend a fine tuned element of service to our guests from our small team of dedicated staff.

Olerai's rooms are spread over the lush garden of yellow fever trees, fig trees and indigenous wildflowers that attract colourful sunbirds and butterflies, while the family-style dining room with its log fire and sweeping verandah is perfect for informal drinks and dining.

Our local teams

Part of the joy of staying at an Explorer property is connecting with the team that attends to every detail of your stay. Our properties are hosted by a highly competent team of people from our local communities; in total, we have 47 local tribes represented within our company.

The cultures represented by our diverse team opens up an exchange with our guests that results in friendships quickly formed — not just for the short term, but each time they return. In this way, a journey with Explorer immerses you in the rich cultural fabric of your surroundings, bringing true authenticity to your travel experience.

Our cuisine

Cuisine is a key feature of our properties and a highlight of your stay with us. Across all our camps and lodges, our team of chefs experiment with new and dynamic recipes to create lively, rich and colourful dishes.

We strive to use organically grown local produce wherever possible, either from our own gardens or from select small scale-farmers hand picked by our team. We also make the most of seasonal fruit and vegetable in each camp’s location. No matter where you stay, we remain flexible to any dietary requirements you may have.

Our property partners

We select our accommodation partners based on a shared philosophy of exclusive locations, high standards of service and exceptional experiences. As tour operators, we have first hand experience of each camp and lodge and select properties based on the overall product they create - not just the beautiful photos they supply.

First of all, Tanzania is a magical place. But to have been privileged to have seen most of it in the company of Gary Strand and Explorer has made it even more so.
